we were momentarily suspended
I sleep not a drop
thou my arms are draped against your body in repose
,
thoughts play upon flesh as my hands dare not
,
not at this moment
in this circumstance
,
and so my mind travels through some intangible future
in which we are already lovers
,
registering with meaning
every meaningless twitch of your form
.
it is my arms growing numb and the sound of night insects
,
your breathing
,
and then you shift in a dream
and I kiss your back and belly
stopping only to let you fall back into slumber
.
this is repeated until the sun rises
,
now it is the heat and bluing sky and morning birds exotic
filling in the shadows of our embrace
ferrying us back from what ever world
we were momentarily suspended in
.
