grinding black

video

I am embarking on a project called god loves her children. It is made up of gum dichromate on panel works just like in search of giant purism, below. The imagery comes from the So Cal fires that happened a few months ago. While I was down there, I gathered charred wood from some of the houses, shelters, the landscape and a church that burned to the ground. You can see in the video above, I am taking the charcoaled wood and grinding it to a fine powder. I will use this carbon black as my pigment to make the gum prints of the photographs I captured of the aftermath of the fires.
